About Me
My dad has been suffering with gout for several years. He controls his symptoms and reduces flare-ups through proper diet and care. Gout is a result of excessive uric acid in the blood, causing painful swelling primarily of the ankles and toes. In my dad's case, a flare-up can prevent him from driving his car for several days or from wearing a normal pair of shoes.
Preventing gout flare-ups can be as simple as limiting foods and drink that are high in uric acid and fat. This includes high protein red meats and fish, as well as alcohol. When my dad experiences a gout attack, he takes a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. Soaking his feet in a warm Epsom salt foot bath also helps. His doctor also recommends drinking plenty of water to flush out uric acid. I hope my blog will provide insight to help others with this condition.
